Dumpling Daughter

Hi! I’m H! And I’m G! Today, we went to Dumpling Daughter, in Weston, MA. As usual, we had some help from a friend to help us try the delicious food- Shout out to MG! Dumpling Daughter is a very cute and unique Chinese restaurant with amazing flavors and fun dishes.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was extremely pleasant. First, we ordered at the counter, then sat down at a table to wait for our meal. The service was extremely fast and the food was perfectly hot and ready to go, and food was brought to us as it was ready. There were about a dozen tables, including a few booths and a countertop. The walls were lined with handcrafted art for sale and magazines which had reviewed their food.

The first thing we tried was the Steamed Traditional Beef with Minced Onion Bun. It was extremely soft and had thick dough. The flavors were simple and classic, with nicely cooked beef that was tender and not at all fatty. It was very delicious, though we would probably recommend using some sauce on it, if you are looking for a little more flavor. Now let me tell you about the brussel sprouts- these are not just any brussel sprouts, but ones that we would order every time we go to Dumpling Daughter. The brussel sprouts themselves were perfectly cooked, meaning that they were soft, but the smaller pieces where deliciously crispy. On top, there was a good amount of kewpie, sriracha, and nori seaweed. For anyone who doesn’t know (like us before researching it) kewpie is a mayo made out of rice vinegar, making it more creamy than normal mayonnaise. The kewpie and sriracha created a perfectly spicy, tangy flavor, making an all-around amazing dish. Next, we went for the Mixed Vegetable Dumpling. The filling of the dumpling was perfect with a sweet flavor, including carrots, cabbage, and many more. It was surrounded by a light wanton, that was the perfect green, bringing a little color to the meal. After the vegetable dumplings we had the Pan-Seared Pork and Napa Cabbage Dumpling. The wrapper of this dumpling was thicker than that of the previous, and was partly crunchy from the searing technique used. Inside there was a good amount of very tasty pork, and is an example of a classic dish done to perfection. Lastly, we tried the Dan Dan Mein. This was something that we decided on just because we wanted to try something unique, and neither of us had tried anything like it before. The thick noodle base was covered with sweet beef and had both a spicy and peanuty flavor. It was topped with two pieces of bright bok choy. We decided to do a little research about the dish and found that it can be made very different depending on the region that it is from. In some recipes, the sauce is a little more brothy or sesame paste is used instead of peanuts. I’m glad we chose to try this dish because of the unique flavors, as it makes you question (in a good way) all of the flavors present in the dish.

Overall, our experience at Dumpling Daughter was very pleasant and we highly recommend that you take a trip there.

Please leave a comment with your thoughts and give us any recommendations to your favorite place in the Boston area that we can go and try. We are always on the hunt for more places to go!
